Confused about image file download

Asked by pcnerd

I want to download & try Ubuntu & Kubuntu Live CD, but every download site is AMD64. My laptop is a dual-core Intel. Isn't the internal CPU architecture of the AMD64 different from the Intel64?

Thank you.

Try this site:

    http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Don't forget to select your chosen mirror site.

It is quite safe to download the Ubuntu or Kubuntu version for the x86 architecture. That is the most common architecture and your laptop with its Intel dual-core processor most likely is 32-bit.

I also run a dual-core Intel processor and the 32-bit version runs just fine.

You do not need to download both Ubuntu and Kubuntu unless you want to do so in "Live" format for evaluation. You can download Ubuntu and install it and then add the Kubuntu desktop afterwards.

Actually, my laptop has a Core 2 Duo processor. I noticed that all of the downloads are Amd64.

So, then I can run Ubuntu on my Core 2 Duo laptop even though the download shows Amd64, correct?
