cannot connect to windows xp network

Asked by Niloc Deeps

Hi there, I'm new to Ubuntu and I think it's great except..........
I work in a school and their network is on windows xp. Some days I can get onto the windows network from my laptop (which uses Ubuntu) with no problem at all, but some days I cannot - even though I can use the printers on the network.
I can always see my laptop from the windows computers.
Please help - this is so frustrating!
       Thanks
       Colin

Is the windows network a domain?
Does the network have a WINS server?

Sorry to waste everybody's time. Ever since I wrote this, I have been able to connect with no problem. I don't know what the problem was, but it has disappeared. Launchpad works!!!

Cool...

It may be a problem on the Windows side of the house if it is on and off.
