Can set up a dual boot system with windows vista 32 bit and ubuntu 64 bit?

Asked by JHam

I recently built a computer and I wanted to have a dual boot of windows vista and Ubuntu. I have tried to install 64 bit ubuntu but the disk wont boot. I only have the 32 bit edition of vista. Will the 64 bit edition of ubuntu work or do I have to use the other version of ubuntu.

Theoretically this is not a problem.

Whether you can run 64-bit Ubuntu depends on your hardware. Do you have a 64-bit CPU? If yes, you're sorted. Otherwise resort to the i386 Ubuntu.

My Cpu is an Intel core 2 quad cpu Q6700 to be exact and it sems to have64 bit capabilities. Am I wrong or maybe I messed up when burning/booting my cd? When bios says boot from cd it misses it and just goes on to boot windows

Your CPU can handle the 64-bit Ubuntu.

Most likely you have a bad burn or bad download. Check the MD5 hash to verify.

If the BIOS checks for the CD indeed, you can't have "messed up" while booting. Verify that CD-ROM is set as first boot device in your BIOS.
