Help installing google desktop

I have downloaded Key and install file for google desk top. How do I install???

It seems complicated.

I get an error message:

E: Type '“deb' is not known on line 52 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: Unable to lock the list directory

Please advise

google-repo-setup.sh

When I try to run Synaptic I get:

E: Type '“deb' is not known on line 52 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Are causing the errors.

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Remove those lines, save it.

sudo apt-get update

Then carry on as you were.

Steven,

That fix worked. Noe I get an error message:

Same version is available in a software channel

You are recommended to install the software from the channel instead.

Please advise.  I have not used Linux before.

It means the package is available in the repositories, search for it in Synaptic. You should be able to find it and install it far easier that way.
