No sound to tv via hdmi link - video ok

My only problem with Ubuntu is that I have a HDMI link to my Toshiba LCD TV and the Video works perfect - plays on TV BUT the sound stays on my AMD Laptop ? How do I get the sound to also play on the TV (as it did under windows vista) ? Under 'sound preferences" I have left everything on auto-detect. Can someone help please ? Thanks - Les

First of all: Which graphics card do you have?

I suspect that this is caused by a slight misconfiguration.

You should check under System -> Preferences -> Sound, and make sure that the correct playback-device is selected.
