installing the flash plug in

Asked by John Banyard

i am trying to install the flash plug in 9 on my ubuntu, it says to navigate to where it is saved on the desktop and then add to it and it should tell me to close my browser windows down and it should finish installing, but the trouble is, i can find the directory on the desktop where the file is but i cannot get it to start installing, it keeps telling me there is no such directory as i put the last bit on

   1. Click the "Download .tar.gz" link. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file.
   2. Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.
   3. Unpackage the file. A directory called install_flash_player_9_linux will be created.
   4. In terminal, navigate to this directory and type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer. Click Enter. The installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).
   5. Once the installation is complete, the plug-in will be installed in your Mozilla browser. To verify, launch Mozilla and choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu.

that is what i am supposed to be doing, i am up to number 4 and am stuck, please help!

I believe that using flashplugin-nonfree downloads the latest and installs it for you. (I know for a fact in Edgy for sure its 9). In order to do this you have to enable the multiverse.

I would recomend you do not download the flash player from the adobe website, but instead follow Alpha_Clusters advice and install the package from Ubuntu. This is fully detailed on the following page:-

the click the close button and it will prompt u for reloading click it it will gather all the updates and u will be notified of the updates
install the updates and reboot ur system

then go to this link

http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/download.pl?arch=i386&file=pool%2Fmultiverse%2Ff%2Fflashplugin-nonfree%2Fflashplugin-nonfree_9.0.48.0.2%2Breally0ubuntu12_i386.deb&md5sum=4c2cde9277e18c47a42ae8efc3720eb7&arch=i386&type=main
