Hardy Upgrade kills scanner

Asked by gordon

Upgrade from Gutsy 7.10 to Hardy 8.04 results in USB scanner failing to operate.

Scanner is recognised using sane-find-scanner
scanimage -L recognises no scanner
Scanner is Microtek Phantom C6, which is supported by the microtek2 driver
I've read the man pages for sane and microtek2 and tried everything suggested under "problems" but without success.

Any ideas, anyone?

Problem solved. The /dev/sg4 directory had root permission only. Changing permission to user works fine.

But why does Hardy ship with root permission only for its scanner directory?
