Help with Installation of Ubuntu on iMac G3, 333MHz

Asked by Peter

Hi, could someone please help me get and install Ubuntu on my iMac. Specs are G3, Power PC, 333 MHz, 96 MB built in memory, 990 MB Virtual memory, Backside L2 cache 512K.

I no longer have any OS running on the machine.

My challenges are: I must download and burn a CD on an Windows XP system and then boot the iMac with it. Could someone please:

1) recommend which version to download and where to download it from?
2) freeware to burn the CD and what formatting to use to allow successful boot and installation on the iMac?

I'm really stuck here. I've already downloaded, burned, and began an installation of Edubuntu-6.06.1 (install.powerpc.iso). The installation started off fine, but then began giving me errors of corrupt files. Eventually brojke off install and now iMac system has pretty much nothing. I don not have the original OS software for the iMac, pretty old machine.

Thanks so much!
Peter

The current Ubuntu version for PowerPC can be downloaded from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/8.04/release/

Regarding burning software, there are some good freeware programs like ISORecorder or burnatonce.

Can you help with this problem?
