Would ubuntu work for my needs?

All I want to do in my computer is use word power point and make presentation I would also like to watch videos and surf the web and link my ipod to it and also would love to use Compiz fushion I don’t play any games. I would also like word or presentation to read in windows and Ubuntu.. So what type of a lap top is best for all these things, I still have not bought it yet? Because last time I switched it was quite hard i think i did some thing wrong

The iPod causes people some issues, but there are ways around that.

I like the Lenovo T61 and R61 series. If you do not need the uber graphics the intel based video solutions are great. If I have to choose between Nvidia and ATI I go to Nvidia right now; though ATI has opened up their drivers now.
