from were or how can i get a valid them?

i download a them then i tried to install but is says "does not appear to be a valid theme".so what do i need or where can i get a valid them or how??

Please give us a link to what you're trying to install. Usually you can install themes by dragging them onto the "appereance applet" (under system -> settings -> appereance). But some theme creaters do their own stuff, so you've got to download a archive, extract it and then read the documentation they include...

Yes, Christoph is right. A good place to get themes, depending on your desktop layout is one of the following:

www.gnome-look.org
www.kde-look.org

there are others, but those are the main two. Those sites cover everything from wallpapers, login screens, desktop themes, icons, you name it they have it. 99% of the stuff on there is good too, meaning it will work and won´t break your computer.
