while installing cannot get past the where are you? page. I have rebooted 3 x's and continue to lock up at this point.

Asked by Jeffiejoe

In the installation phase 2 I have selected the correct time zone but clicking the forward button does no good. I have tried rebooted and started installation over 3x's and I keep getting locked out at this point. What am I doing wrong....I am not a techie and really want Ubuntu to work for me. I have even done the check to make sure the cd is good....the testing comes back with no problems. OH...I cannot go back or cancel either. The only button that seems to work on the page is the minimize.

What version of Ubuntu are you trying to install? Also, please check the integrity of the disk by following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck

What version of Ubuntu are you trying to install? I believe I have seen this happen once before to me. Instead of restarting, I just closed the installer and opened it again. Try going about selecting your timezone in a different manner and see if that helps. For instance, if you selected it from the map, use the list box. If you selected it from the list box, use the map. I hope that helps!

Haha, William and I asked the same question right after each other. Hopefully one of our solutions will fix it. If the CD integrity test gives an error, try burning the CD at a lower speed (try the lowest speed possible).

I am trying to install 6.10. I have already done the integrity test...cd tested fine. Will try selecting time zone in a different manner.

I rebooted and started installation over again. Tried setting the time zone differently and * bingo* it worked. Thanks!!!

Hello. I'm in Zambia trying to install Ubuntu onto a Dell Optiplex GX150 with 128 MB of RAM and a P3 processor. The PC has Windows XP installed, but this has stopped working.

The 6.10 live CD kept stopping on an empty baige desktop screen presumably because the PC had too little memory. We have a wired digital satellite broadband internet connection (Broadcom 440x10/100 Integrated Controller) which was cutting out whenever I tried to download the large Xubuntu operating systems.

So following the instructions on (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/minimal) I've been trying to install a minimal Ubuntu system. When it gets to the page to find a mirror of the Ubuntu archive, it keeps failing. I have tried with every country bordering Zambia as well as South Africa, UK, USA, and Australia. Any suggestions?

Is our internet connection too unreliable to download an archive mirror? (what are the alternatives as getting the alternate CD posted out would take 8 weeks?) I can't do the integrity test as this doesn't come up as option on the start screen with the minimal ISO.

Hope someone can help

Henry
