Ubuntu brightness cannot be changed

Asked by thor42

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 from a desktop computer(which does not have backlight).
It's an Intel Core i7 6700 with internal Graphics connected thru hdmi to monitor.
Under System Settings there is no brightness slider to change brightness.
Trying with xrand or redshift makes just the colors ugly, but doesn't change the brightness.
Any hints?

Does the system have a make and model?

It's just the Aus Z170M Plus Mainboard with 256GB SSD and 32GB RAM inside a desktop case. No brand model or so.

Bump. No one else has this problem?

Tried to google and search elsewhere for quite some time now, but nothing came up.
Could anyone maybe provide some hints about what tools might help?
Maybe i have to change from ubuntu to something else.

Could try the boot option:

acpi_backlight=vendor

The mainboard is connected thru HDMI to an Acer Monitor.
The backlight control from ubuntu is disabled.
After adding "acpi_backlight=vendor" to the boot option and reboot nothing changed.
