Just finished replacing Win7 with Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 on Sony Vaio laptop - however, the "authentication password" doesn't work (or is recognised) ?

Asked by How

1. can't get updates-software-etc - Is there a remedy ?
Note: Not sure what problem is, but, occasionally the typed text - starts typing #'s instead of letters ? Not sure if keyboard is
defective on the Sony Vaio laptop ? Believed to be 64bit dual core duo setup .... suggestions ? Should I download & burn a newer CD/DVD and re-install whole system ?
