Problems with Ubuntu after installing Kali tools

Asked by Šimon Šustek

Hi everyone,
I installed some tools from Kali linux (I installed these with Katoolin) on my Ubuntu 16.10, installation went without any problems (I selected 0 (like to install all tools(I think that there I made a mistake...))). Then removed all Kali repositories... And reboot... After that reboot I have something between Ubuntu and Kali (see pictures)... Moreover my system language changed from czech to english, although I have selected czech in my system settings... And there are few error messeges coming up when logging in....
Is there any other way to fix it, then the reinstallation of the system?
Is the system "transformed" from Ubuntu to Kali Linux now?
Thank you for your answers!

What exactly did you do during your attempt to install the kali tools?
Did you run "apt-get upgrade" during that process?

What is the output of the commands
lsb_release -crid
tail -n 20 /var/log/apt/history.log

I assume that some Ubuntu packages have been replaced by a Kali Linux variant, and this now creates problems.
I guess that a new installation will be the fastest way to get back to a healthy system.

I don't remeber, if I ran "apt-get upgrade", it's possible....

I agree with you that "a new installation will be the fastest way to get back to a healthy system." It will be probably the best solution...

Thank you for your time...

Your Terminal output for lsb_release -crid shows that you are now running some kind of Kali Linux / Ubuntu hybrid.

This is why it is NOT allowed to mix repositories fromn 2 different GNU/Linux distributions.

It is NOT even allowed to mix repositories between Debian and Ubuntu.

Doing so will break your system and require a complete reinstall.
