I can't retrieve backups

Asked by stevedee

I tried to install 16.10LTS and it was crap so I deleted it and put 14.04LTS back in from a usb stick. I then tried to reinstall my most recent backup and received the following error messages. I am using the backup facility bundled with 14.04LTS , Deja dup.

How do I get it to work? The version of 14.04LTS that I used to load my computer is the original unpacked bootable version I got when I upgrade to 14.04LTS a couple of years ago.
Thank you.

If you run the dejadup application using gksudo, does it help?

I installed "gksudo" and got the following message,

(gksudo:3056): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_value_free: assertion 'value != NULL' failed

I have attached the data that was downloaded when I did apt-get gksu.

Andrew,
 When I try "gksudo" the following happens in terminal,

$ gksu
GNOME_SUDO_PASS

I then enter my password as requested. The run program window pops up, I type "dejadup" into the "run" space, press OK, the run program window disappears and then nothing happens. I have tried it as root and as the computer name with the same result.
Typing "gksudo" gives the same result.
I tried to send you mad by not giving enough info and not following suggestions to the letter a couple of years ago under the name Steve Dunk, my real name. Unfortunately I cannot access my passwords as they are all locked up in backup in a 32Gb sd card, as a result I had to create a new launchpad account so that I could ask for help.
The sd card was not in the machine when I loaded 16.10 although I did try to access it once 16.10 was loaded so that I could transfer my settings. When that didn't work I removed the card . After I reloaded 14.04 with original computer name and password I then tried to access backup with the current result. I have NOT used encryption for backup or basic operating system. I have put my important passwords in a little book and put it in a safe place, unfortunately I now can't find it despite ripping half the house apart.
I appreciate your efforts to help.
Thank you.

I have now installed 16.04.1 with the same result as above. I get the same error message when I try to access my backup file in dejadup as before yet I can partly open the files directly from the sd card.

I don't know if this helps, but each of the manifests gives similar results.

Thank you.
