sudo apt-get install lxde

Log off then at the login page, choose the LXDE session then log in.

Andrew:

OK. Since I now have XFCE and LXDE, what I have to do to boot directly to lxde? Thanks.

Once you log in to LXDE, the DM will remember the last session you used.

OK. Then, I what I don't understand is why when I turn the machine on the splash screen that initially appears is the one pertaining to xfce.

The splash screen doesn't mean anything. It's just a pretty splash screen
