installation problem

Asked by Ram

Ubuntu 8.04LTS version. It worked fine on one of my laptop but had problem with another (Fujitsu Cseries). When i boot from the CD, I get the starting menu where we are given 4 options and I have selected the second option to install it. Then I see a progress bar moving after some time instead of getting the Install splash screen i get the console. I just don't understand what command needs to be typed nor does it allows me to reboot as i don't have root previlages. Is it a problem of hardware detection? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This sounds more like a support request than a bug report, so I am converting it to a question.

RE: Your question.

The LiveCD does not work for everybody, so if you are just going to install, I suggest trying the alternate install cd which is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download by checking the box at the bottom. The alternate cd uses a text based installer rather than a live session, but it is still intuitive and easy to use. The LiveCD simply doesn't have support for all hardware, but the alternate cd works for basically everybody.

Can you help with this problem?
