how to install ubuntu 8.10 using unetbootin without affecting windows xp and replacing ubuntu 7.04

Asked by kshitijmmmec

i have windows xp and ubuntu 7.04(Fiesty Fawn) on my lapy. Now i want to install ubuntu 8.10 replacing ubuntu 7.04. I am using UNetbootin to install it by desktop cd(not alternate cd) version. I have not deleted ubuntu 7.04 and using UNetbootin through my windows C: drive. Now when I try to install it using UNetbootin, on coming to 'prepare partitions' menu; it does not list anythingon where new ubuntu 8.10 will be installed. Is this because i have not deleted ubuntu 7.04 and created free space? if i delete ubuntu 7.04 through partition editor in live session of ubuntu 8.10 to create free space then would i be able to install it and whether deleting would affect my windows OS?
Please give some suggestions. Hoping for ur reply.

you can simply install ubuntu on the same partition where you installed fedora.this will automatically erase fedora
