Suspend not supported by hardware alternatives

Asked by Craig

I am running Ubuntu 16.04. Apparently my hardware does not support Suspend. Everything works well but when I suspend the computer, most of the time it will come back to the login but will not accept input. It has at times worked for me. I've tried several different techniques to restart the computer after it locks up but usually need to hard restart.

Are there any alternatives to suspend the computer for long periods and reduce wear on fans, use of electricity, etc.?

Thank you for your quick reply.

It is a custom system with a MSI mainboard with 3rd gen Intel Core i7; Intel
chipset Z77, H77,B75; 16GB memory; SSD andHDD; nVidia Geforce 6600???; Acer
and HP displays.
Suspend didn't work with Windows 7, Windows 10 and now Ubuntu Linux
16.04.xx.
I would have to be home to give any more information.

Craig
