Question on backporting

Asked by Maarten Jacobs

Hello,

I am trying to backport a package from zesty to trusty. I have figured out how to use backportpackage to add the upstream package to my personal PPA and have it built on the target platform.

Now I have run into a problem.

The backport build fails because dependencies aren't satisfied - the upstream package requires other packages at higher versions than what is available on Trusty.

Thus, I am trying to backport the dependencies as well - however the build of the main package doesn't pick up packages from my personal PPA. Is there a way to make this work?

I also appear to have an issue (and maybe this is resolved by an answer to my previous question), that "-dev" packages cannot be backported - or at least backportpackage throws an error when I try to do so, even if the target package is available in the upstream release.

Thanks,
