lvmetad warning during sysint when running /scripts/local-top

Asked by Mark Shaw

Hi & thank you for your attention

After clean installing XUbuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 16.04, and using the option to use LVM, as well as upgrading from XUbuntu 14.04 LTS (with LVM) version to 16.04, the following output is visible during startup:

Begin: Mounting root filesystem . . .
Begin: Running /scripts/local-top . . . lvmetad not active yet, using direct activation during sysinit
done.
Begin: Running /scripts/local-premount . . . done.

This has no perceivable effect on the success of the boot process.

Running the kernel 3.13.0-92 results in no error message but all the 16.04 kernels result in this error, including the latest 4.4.0-42.

This lvmetad message has previously been reported in association with the results of running fsck. Removing "quiet splash" at the GRUB command line reveals this view of the problem.

Does an inactive lvmetad during sysinit imply anything about the integrity of the file system? Can I ignore it?

Mark
