Find out the system configuration file

In windows all system configuration information contains in the SYSTEM registry file which located in Windows/System 32/config/ . In Ubuntu which file we can use instead of this?

Not all system configuration in Windows is in that folder.

In Linux a lot of applications are configured using the /etc folder but user applications can be configured in ~/.config and lots of other hidden folders in $HOME
