Earlier upgrades from 14.04 LTS to 16.04LTS had some bugs, is it more seamless now

Asked by bccynic

I considered upgrading but did some research and found that a few of the applications had to be worked around. Is this still the case?

It depends on the installation, sadly.

Proprietary drivers can have issues. You should disable PPAs before starting.

I always just reinstall and wipe off the old install. This way you know the install is only what the devs intended.

Some people have great success with LTS to LTS release upgrades

Thank you, I guess I'll go with the clean install.
