Question about the Ubuntu Touch Scope problem

Asked by xxx

Hello. This is my last attempt to get an answer for this question, Iv'e tried several times through several forums and had no luck.

Other people have asked the same thing.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1404824

Ubuntu Touch has multiple scopes that can not be uninstalled even using the terminal. On my phone (BQ 4.5) They include 7digital, 8coupons, Amazon, Holidays, Yahoo! finance, and a few more I think.

I would like to find out why they cant be removed?

Is it because of a technical issue and the developers just have not got around to fixing the problem, or is it some kind of commercial deal where they are in-bedded into the phone?

After 6 months of using Touch as my main phone this is the only thing that annoys me, I just want to know so I can lay it to rest and either report it as a bug (although already been done) or give up knowing that the phone is always going to have lots of unwanted scopes on it.

I don't know if the creators of Touch will read this, but I really hope I can finally get an answer.

Cheers,

Dan

As my bug was never picked up and the other persons bug was basically ignored, it seems most likely a commercial thing.
If it was a true bug it would have at least been picked up and tagged as something by now.

I am actually surprised and disappointed, maybe I am reading too much into it but after all the negativity of the Amazon app on the desktop why would Canonical do it again on their phone? All we need is a handful of big websites/You-tubers to pick up on it and it could damage the reputation when it comes to releasing the phone on a large scale.

All the OS makers put bloatware into the phones in one form or another, but following the trend just makes Touch equal with the Apple/Google/Microsoft phones, but without any apps or third party support!

I have tested this, when I've shown people my phone they have been generally positive with it, liking the simple design and control. But as soon as I tell them about the scopes that cant be removed almost every person was put off, with a lot of them saying "Well its no different to Android"!

Touch has great privacy and security but that wont mean squat if the average person thinks it carries the same privacy issues as all the other OS's.

Still hoping this is not bloatware, but not holding my breath about it.
