Ubuntu on Acer Aspire 1350

Asked by Fabio Zuppardi

Hi,

I am trying to install Ubuntu on an old Acer Aspire 1350 (AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 796 Mhz and 1.25GB RAM) but I get the following error when booting the machine from USB:

This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detects an i686 CPU.
Unable to boot, please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

I am totally new to Ubuntu/Linux systems and I am wondering if there is a version that I can install on this old laptop to bring it back to life.

Thank you.

You have downloaded the 64bit ISO but your CPU is 32bit

You need the 32bit ISO.

I can also recommend you use Xubuntu or Lubuntu. They are official Canonical releases and designed to use fewer resources. Lubuntu is lighter but does less hand holding so I suggest Xubuntu.

Here is the torremt for the file:
http://torrent.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/xenial/release/desktop/xubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso.torrent

Or download via HTTP:
