What updates to install if I want to keep old version of Ubuntu

Asked by Rayner

Hi all, if I want to keep my old version of ubuntu 14.04, will installing the kernel images and header files for version 4.4.0 and generic kernel headers automatically upgrade my OS to ubuntu 16.04?

Thank you!

see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack#Ubuntu_14.04_LTS_-_Trusty_Tahr

Remark: if the command "dpkg --print-architecture" shows "amd64" as its result and if you have installed 32bit applications (like Skype and/or Wine), then you should use the command below "MULTIARCH DESKTOP"

So does that mean that if I accept the installations, it will not upgrade my ubuntu version to 16.04? I do not want to upgrade my OS. Sorry, I am new to ubuntu.

No, you will only upgrade the kernel to a later version.
