Install Ubuntu on a formatted PC?

Asked by PantsOnHead

My old PC had a Virus, so I formatted it, but the PC didn't come with a OS disc so now I can't use it without buying another Disc. What I need to know is if I can install Ubuntu onto it he state it is in, and how would I go about it, can I download Ubuntu on this PC and make a Disc for use with my other PC?
Thanks.

You need to download an .iso image which is burned to a cd (not copied as a .iso file but as an image)

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Then you boot from this CD and can install to disk from there.

The machine can be completely blank.
