That does not look like the right Terminal output.
Could you please copy-paste the following command instead of trying to type it?
find /etc/apt -name '*.list' -exec bash -c 'echo -e "\n$1\n"; cat -n "$1"' _ '{}' \;

You have the configuration line
deb http://
in 2 different configuration files.
Run this Terminal command to delete the duplicate configuration line:
sudo rm /etc/apt/
And concerning the following bug:
"W: Unknown Multi-Arch type 'no' for package"
please read the following bugreport:
https:/
It may be a good idea to perform a clean install of Ubuntu 16.04.1 after performing a backup of all your personal data, because I suspect that your upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu 16.04 did not go that well.

Furthermore, I suspect that you may be running an outdated version of apt (package manager program).
What is the output of this command?
apt-cache policy apt
It should show version 1.2.12~

Hi Mark,
I checked all suggestions but none is working for me because they are taking about dual boot system issues and 32 bit. I used only ubuntu and i have single boot 64 bit system. I thing i will have to install ubuntu again that is the only way i have. I just want to save my /home data which is really important. can you please help me how can i save my data. I don't have any external hard drive to store that data. I read about clonezilla but to implement this i need external hard drive which i don't have. if you have any other way to save my data please let me know. I am eagerly waiting for your response.

If you cannot boot the Ubuntu system on your hard disk, then you have to use a live system from an installation kit to access your data.
You have to create DVD or a bootable USB stick with the Ubuntu installation kit, as described on http://
And then you have to boot from this medium and select "Try Ubuntu without installing".
This should then allow accessing all data on the hard disk partitions.

Any decent LiveCD / LiveUSB distro should be able to copy your personal data to an external storage medium (like a USB stick), if your data is not encrypted on the harddisk or SSD.
Trying booting Ubuntu 16.04.1 via a LiveUSB session.
Then mount the /home directory and copy the data to a second USB stick. I hope you can copy your personal files from the /home directory to your second USB stick. Do you have a second USB stick?
Alternatively, you can try booting from Puppy Linux and try to copy the /home directory files to another USB Stick using a LiveUSB session in Puppy Linux:
http://
However, it is more complicated if your personal data is encrypted. That is why it is much better to make regular backups, if your data is important.
Here is an old procedure for recovering data from an encrypted home directory:
http://
If someone knows a newer procedure, please let us know.
I never had to recover data myself, so my knowledge is rusty in this case.....
