after installing new USB WiFi adaptor to 16.04 the internet is lost after afew minutes

Asked by nigel brown

My USB WiFi adaptor broke down . I bought another . I had some trouble getting it to work but eventually it worked but it kept losing connection after a short while. Now it loses connection after about 10 minutes and it seems the time is getting shorter. The only way I can restore the connection is by restarting the computer. When the connection is lost the icon indicates the connection is still intact , but, for example the Skype icon shows it has been lost, and any web page request fails to find a server.

What WiFi adapter?
Which release of Ubuntu?
Have you tried in a USB 2 and USB 3 port?

The WiFi adapter is TP-LINK model no, TL-WN821N

My Ubuntu is the 16.04.

I have tried other USB ports but the problem persists.

Strangely, the problem is less today. I had a whole hour without
disconnection and then I shut down the computer. I only had one App.
active, which was Firefox. This made me wonder if the problem was
connected to Skype as I usually have that open in case someone wants to
call me. I came back some hours later and restarted the computer and
started Firefox which was fine until I opened Facebook, when it
disconnected. It seems like it doesn't like handling more than one App.
at a time.
