if i connect a usb webcamera (philips) will it work on ubuntu 6.10? and what is the application i can use with it?

Also, what is the output of the following command in the terminal(applications>accessories>terminal

lsusb

that is LSUSB in lowercase.

Yes, you webcam seems to be supported by the pwc driver (http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/PWC/WorkingWebcamsWithPWC) and should work with Ubuntu. This web page also has a list of applications you could use with your webcam in Ubuntu - http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Webcams .
