16.0 virtual machine showing green screen, $ signs, with big mouse pointer

Hi, I was wanting to ask if there are know issues with the 16.0 Xubuntu image and creation of virtual machines via open VM? Operations via bare metal seem to have no problem, but as soon as the image is in a virtual environment the screen turns green with dollar signs and a big mouse pointer.

14.0 Xubuntu image installed via virtual machine works no problem.
