Integrated Sound/video Problem with XFX Geforce 8200

Asked by thomas.d.jensen

New Install of 8.04.1 64

Motherboard: XFX MIA78S8209
Processor: AMD Athlon 5400+
Graphics Card: Palit 8500GT Super

On board nVidia graphics (8200) worked until nVidia propitiatory driver was installed then only my graphics card worked also nVidia (8500) - I intend on eventually removing this card and installing the motherboard in a thin case for my entertainment system, so I would prefer to have the on board video work, after all that is why I bought this board....HDMI/HDA.

The worst part is the sound, it is only coming from the front channel and is very scratchy.

lspci | grep -i video
00:07.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 0774 (rev a1)

I tried every setup within Sound Preferences and found that ALSA preformed the best but is still very scratchy and still the one output.

Please if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thank you in advance.

Thomas

Thomas,

I'm sorry that I don't have any advice to offer, but I see this combination on sale on tigerdirect in Canada, and I was about to buy it myself and put on Ubuntu 8.04. If you get this to work, could you post your results and methods?

Thanks!
Damon

No luck yet.

XFX Support as follows:

[ 7/22/2008 3:18:41 AM] Only front channel audio works but has lots of static. Is there a updated driver for Linux?
[BRIAN 7/24/2008 11:25:28 PM] Hi Thomas, thanks for the message. Do you have the latest drivers for the sound card? Do you have the latest drivers for the motherboard? What OS are you using? Let us know. Thanks Brian.
[ 7/25/2008 2:08:50 AM] Brian, I have the CD that came with the motherboard, and I checked with Nvidia for the latest drivers, but couldn`t determine which to use, since I have Linux installed. I was able to get the rear and sub ports to work (they were muted in ALSA), but the sound quality was poor just like the front port. I`m also unable to get the video to work with the latest proprietary drivers from Nvidia, so I`m using a video card for now (Nvidia GeForce 8500). Oddly enough this works perfectly with the Nvidia drivers. The board is 8200? I hope that you can help so I can use this for the purpose I purchased it. A small MythTV box. I will not be able to install a TV card with the video card installed. My OS is Ubuntu 8.04.1 64, Linux Kernel 2.6.24-19-generic
[MICHAELC 7/26/2008 1:05:09 AM] Hi Thomas; it may be tough to know which drivers you will need in this case, as we do not have any Linux systems over here to use for reference, but you can find drivers for 32-bit and 64-bit Linux systems at http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us (choose product type Nforce, nforce 7 series, 780a/750a../Geforce, Driver) then pick the appropriate OS and hopefully that should help. Regards, Michael
[ 7/26/2008 3:11:54 PM] There appears to be no drivers.
[DANIEL_E 7/30/2008 7:03:19 PM] Hi, The audio chip on the motherboard is made by realtek. Realtek has some linux drivers found here ftp://152.104.238.19/pc/audio/LinuxPkg_5.05.tar.bz2 . However we do not offer support for them since we do not officially support linux. You can find the realtek site here www.realtek.com.tw . Daniel
[ 7/30/2008 11:29:05 PM] When I installed Winows XP both the nvidia HDMI audia and realtek high definition audio drivers were installed. Which is it? Do I need both? the board appears to work well with windows installed, but the device manager shows a problem with Nvidia WDM Video Capture. Any Ideas?
[BRIAN 8/1/2008 12:32:41 AM] Hi Thomas, thanks for the message. The HDMI audio would be there if you want to us an HDMI cable and output audio as well as video through that card. The HD audio drivers are for the onboard sound card. So, in a way, you will need both. You can disable the WDM device for the motherboard will not be able to do video capture. Thanks Brian.
