ubutu 12.4 installation

Asked by Bob Wills

I want to convert my PC from Windows 7 to UNBUNTU.

I'm using a Western Digital 500GB hard drive.

I have tried to install UNBUNTU 12.04 as directed by "The Official UNBUNTU Book, Seventh Edition" using the included UNBUNTU 1204, Desktop Edition. Plus a current downloaded copy of UNBUNTU from that web site.

The issue is this, I don't see the 'Allocate drive space' screen as shown in Figure 2-3, Page 45, of this UNBUNTU Book.

What are the steps do I need to take to install UNBUNTU?

Thanks,

Bob Wills

There is good information at site below.

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/install-ubuntu-desktop

Also check below site, about Ubuntu releases.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I would suggest that you install a newer supported release, 16.04. 14.04 would be better than 12.04.

I assume the book included a DVD. Why not try a dual boot? You can have Ubuntu and Windows 7. 250 GB will be enough space for each. See site below.

The OS is also called Ubuntu, not Unbuntu. Look at the top of this page. The newer LTS is supported for a lot longer and will support newer hardware

Can you help with this problem?
