installation of vtk6 removes mayavi2

Asked by tobias Moehle

Hi,
I wanted to install vtk (vtk6) on Ubuntu 14.04 to be used in an external program to write vtk-files.
Unfortunately, this removed python-vtk and hence mayavi2 which is incompatible with python-vtk6.

Now, first: In python-vtk6 mayavi2 is suggested (http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/python-vtk6) which is inconsistent with the dependencies of mayavi2 (http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/mayavi2).

Second: To resolve the problem, it would be nice if mayavi2 would be compatible with python-vtk6 as well ( such as the mayavi-package of xenial: http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/science/mayavi2)

Could these changes be implemented or would it mean too much effort/ possible further problems?

Best,
Tobias
