Unable to enter drive encryption password when booting using NVIDIA-340.96 (Proprietary)

Asked by Logan Hartman

I recently installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 on a Dell Latitude E6410 with an NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics device. After installing the recommended binary driver (version 340.96 from nvidia-340), the graphical encryption password screen at boot-time is out-of-proportion, and I am unable to type my password to continue beyond this screen. If I am able to get into the console-type screen, it stalls at "Loading Initial Ramdisk". I am able to enter my encryption password at this screen, even though it will not show on screen. It will then continue to my login screen as normal after I have entered my password.

While the Nouveau display driver does not have this problem, it has other problems outnumbering this one.

System Details:
Dell Latitude E6410
Intel i5-M540 @ 2.53GHz
NVIDIA NVS 3100M

The problem is with the graphical interface; disabling the graphical bootloader (plymouth) presents me with a text prompt to enter my crypt key. Could this be a problem with the resolution used by plymouth?
