When i go to choose an internet connection...

When i go to choose an iternet connection it doesnt show up any wireless networks only a hardwired default one and a modem one... i found one site on some help with it and it said to right click on the internet connection icon in the taskbar and make sure wirless is ticked and i check there and there isnt any tick thing.@!!!

                                                                                                           please help!!

Can you open a terminal window (Applications menu, Accessories) and type...

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

This will get you all the latest updates which may include fixes to allow your wireless card to be detected.

Then send us the details of the output these commands (run these in a terminal window also)

lsusb

and

lspci

okey dokey i just restarted my compouter and booted it up in ubuntu 8.04 and went to the terminal and did what you said... no for the sudo upgrade one it says there is none and for the update one it has a bunch of website links and coding and then it wont do anything else.. for the usb one it knows that the adapter is plugged and and for he pci, nothing is wrong.. i would type all the stuff it said but i have word 2007 not e ubuntu word processer. so yeah.. thanks a lot for the help tho = )

Can you run this again to confirm no updates?

sudo apt-get upgrade

Also, we need to see what the "lsusb" command says to be able to identify what the wireless card is being detected as.

okay i ran the upgrade one agian and there is none, no i dont know if it's jsut not showing any or not because i have no internet on ubuntu right now, but last night i found some updates on the ubuntu website so i put them on a flash drive and ill load em in later but when i run the sudo apt-get uppdate theres tons of things that show up but i cant download em becaue i have no inter net :(
