retrieving deleted files

Asked by MR FRANK

I typed "shift-delete-enter" by mistake on a folder of precious pictures. Is there anyway to retrieve the folder? I know in windows I could put the PC back in time and have everything the way it was a few hours ago. Can this be done here too and how? thank you.

Not that I am aware, do you have regular backups?

There are some recovery utilities for linux. Try, sleuthkit, foremost or magic-rescue. You should boot from a bootable CD and back up your data on an external drive otherwise you risk your deleted files be over-written. A good bootable Cd for this purpose is grml (www.grml.org).

Can you help with this problem?
