Como instalar los controladores de mi tarjeta S3 Graphics ProSavage en Ubuntu

inicia Ubuntu en "recovery mode":

1) apaga el computador completamente
2) Al inciar, oprime "ESC" para ingresar al menu "GRUB" (debes estar antento
a los mensajes de inicio que invitan a esta opción)
3) Una vez en el menú, escoje la opción de "recovery mode" de Ubuntu
(debería ser la 2a opción en el menú)
4) El "recovery mode" te dará 4 opciones enun menú texto azul de las cuales
la última se llama "Restore X configuration' o algo similar. Escoje esa
opción. La pantalla hará un par de "flash" y un breve mensaje de advertencia
(backup de configuración actual) aparecerá abajo. Al volver al menú, escoje
la opción "Continue boot normally" o similar.

No recuerdo el nombre exacto de opciones de menú pero debería poder
accederlas igual. Esto debería detectar de nuevo tu configuración. Avísanos
aquí si funciona ésta solución.

Fabian, hice lo que me indicaste y pude ingresar a Ubuntu, lamentablemente todos los objetos en la pantalla quedaron demasiado grandes y no puedo ver muchas de las opciones de la barra de menú... aparte el teclado no quedó configurado correctamente, no sé cómo arreglar esto, pero como te digo, no se puede accesar a todas las opciones del menú... y las ventanas cuando se abren no se pueden visualizar completas por lo mismo que están muy grandes... gracias.

Qué tarjeta gráfica tiene tu pc? Al momento que lo averigues, postealo aca y podremos modificar el archivo /etc/X11/xorg.conf y así podremos arreglar la resolución. Primero, averigua que tarjeta de video tiene tu pc.

Hola, intenta arrancando la maquina normalmente, cuando te de el error usa <Ctl><Alt>F1 alli haces login con tu usuario y tu clave, entonces prueba usar el comando:

$: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Sigue las instrucciones y entonces reinicia para ver que pasa.

hola amigos tengo el mismo problema mi tarjeta de graficos es una ati readon xpres 1200 series por favor ayudenme ya e intentado instalar varios linux y nada estoy desesperado

Tengo exactamente el mismo problema con una intel 945, por más que pruebo con las opciones de reconfigurar, crear nueva configuración gráfica, etc, siempre me anda en low graphics mode y se ve muy mal y con muy bajo rendimiento. Lo raro es que andaba bien y de un día para otro empezó a hacer esto y no se como arreglarlo, incluso he pedido ayuda en ubuntuforums.org pero nadie me ha respondido...

Ejecuta en consola: sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Pega el contenido del mismo aqui
Seguramente por lo que lei que pusiste, como tu pantalla es 1440 x 900
(panoramica) no la reconoce porque estan asignado resoluciones 4:3
como la 1024x780 (no panoramicas)
Asi que si ves algo como
   Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
Reemplazalo por las resoluciones que se adaptan a tu pantalla.

Esto tiene que quedar bien encolumnado como estan las demas, con la tecla tab

Lamentablemente no ha funcionado, pasa siempre lo mismo y termino en low graphics mode

puedo observar que en Section "Device" aparece la opcion de "UseFBDev" "true" aunque no estoy muy documentado sobre el tema parece ser que esta configuracion presenta problemas por que no intentas ponerla en false a ver que pasa o sino comentala que mas o menos te quede asi (aunque ahi te pongo mas datos que no se por que no estan, y bueno tampoco conosco que distro usas)

intenta ponerlo que quede de esa forma sino funciona podrias pegar la salida de de este comando , aunque antes deberias revisar sino presenta algun warning o error

cat /var/log/Xorg.[*].log | grep -i bios donde [*] es un numero
ó less /varlog/Xorg.[*].log
