of course it is, typically the installer that comes with ubuntu on the Live CD should take care of that for you but if you are worried you can take a look at a screencast done by a member of the Ubuntu-uk team that walks you though installing Ubuntu as a dual boot with windows.

http://doc.ubuntu.com/screencasts/Installing_Ubuntu_with_Windows_Dual-Boot

or if you can't view video you can read up on the process here

it can take a while to create a partition :) especially if you are resizing another partition

Hi, I think its not working because when I start the partion it gives me that message:Failed to create enough space for installation, but I had at least 20GB available for the partition... I have a 250GB hard drive so I think it should work, I am running windows xp on it and its a dual core... But when I try the second time after it gives me the message it gets stuck... So I dont if u can help me with that !!!

Thank you

You might want to try downloading the "alternate CD" and doing the installation using that...

Get "ubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso" from the site listed below and try running the setup again. You could be experiencing a problem that has been widely reported with the graphical installer, the new image will fix that. The end result will be the same Ubuntu setup you'll just be using a different method of installing.

Hi,
I have recently got Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition. Before that I was using Windows Vista Home Premium Edition.I want to create a dual boot system. When I tried to install Ubuntu inside Windows during rebooting in Ubuntu It is asking to specify the system root file. Also, during booting from CD during installalation it is asking to specify the partition disk.I want to ask if I need to have an empty partition of disk to install. Can you please tell me the procedure to install Ubuntu as a second OS.

Thank you.

Can you help with this problem?
