unable to open slave

when i run an audio capture programm in ubuntu14.10, it showes an error:
unable to open slave
 snd_pcm_open: no such file or directory
...
snd_pcm_readi: Assertion 'pcm' failed
segment fault

and i have tried many ways to solve it, but failed at last. solutions like updating audio-drivers, opening snd devices by "default", "plughw:i,j", "hw:i,j", all these failed with the same error

so, who know the root cause? can u help me?

Ubuntu 14.10 is EOL and no longer supported. I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Xenial (Ubuntu 16.04). Xenial is LTS and supported until April 2021.
