Ubuntu Hardy does not read SD High Capacity cards in card reader

Asked by David

Ubuntu uses my card reader fine when it comes to CF cards but when I install a SDHC (SD high capacity) card it does not read the card at all. I have noticed others have the same problem.

the sdhc card is a 4 gig card just in case you need to know.

well it did finally read but it seems it does not read consistently. It read off of a usb device with the sdhc card plugged into it. I noticed also if I plug the sdhc card into the pc card reader directly it does not read it, that may be because that reader does not read high capacity cards just SD cards.

Please hand in a bug report with as much information (logs, etc.) as possible. At least provide "uname -a" to the devs.

Same with me.
Kingston, 8GB, SD4 HC. - My Ubuntu EEE 8.04 - Asus Eee 900 - shows that it is connected but can mount the volume.
Appreciate the help.

Sorry, I meant can't mount the volume.
There's a system pop up message that goes likek this:

Invalid mounting option while trying to mount volume "KINGSTON". (translated from protuguese)

OK Here is what I found worked for me. As you know I had a 4gig HC card that would not read. It did not read when I put it directly into a multiple card reader which is built into the pc. I found it read the 4 gig HC card when I put it into a (Targus) Card reader/writer.. Which I then plug into a usb port.. This works whereas the multiple card reader does not work. You can try this. :-)

Why honestly can't Ubuntu simply just read an SD Card?
