File names containing the '£' symbol are replaced by � and will not copy across to the host drive?
How can the '£' symbols be reestablished within the file names as a block change (rather than individually) with the result that the files can then be copied to the host drive?

It might help to install euro character support:

sudo aptitude install euro-support

The other option is using a mass file renaming program to replace that character - searching through synaptic or type:

aptitude search rename

there are several programs to choose from
