installation problems

I am trying to install ubuntu 7.3 alternate on an old machine Dell dimension XPS T450 and am having a problem installing.

what do i do when it asks me to for partitions disks should i use guidedentire disk

Ok, look at the size it shows for your hard disks. If the size matches the hard disk you want to install to (say e.g. your 80GB drive), then yes, use "resize xyz". This will shrink the partition with the currently installed system, make some free space for Ubuntu and will install itself there.

If you don't care about your old system you can erase everything by choosing the "use entire disk" option.

Wording from memory, by the way, may be vague.
