Help Installing Ubuntu (Hard Drive)

Asked by Rurikar

Hey

I've recently decided to Dual Boot My Windows Vista with Ubuntu. I have partitioned my Hard Drive, started up the Ubuntu live CD clicked install and I'm on the part where you have to chose a place to install Ubuntu and I'm not 100% sure what to click so it installs onto the partitioned part of my hard drive.

Any help would be much apriciated

To use space you have allocated beforehand you have to use the manual mode and assign the empty partition to Ubuntu.

/ is the root of the Ubuntu filesystem (similar to C:)
/home is where users are stored (similar to C:\Documents and Settings\)

You can put everything into the root / (i.e., one partition for everything), but you also use a second partition for user data, e.g.

Can you help with this problem?
