Installed 8.04 within Vista successfully -- cannot find how to start Ubuntu.

Asked by rlcostello

Ubuntu 8.04 appears to have installed correctly - can find the files on the C: drive -- 8.04 does not show under the "start" programs - it does show in the "install or change program" list. Have insatalled/reinstalled twice on "c" & "d" drives. I'm Stuck. Thanks

Ubuntu is an operating system not a program. See wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_program Does that help you understand what Ubuntu is and why you're not seeing what you expect?

Thanks for the feedback, Duncan.

I do know the difference between system & program. I probably did not
define the problem correctly.
I am new to Linux, thought I would load it and kick it around for a while.
I have read that Ubuntu 8.04 has the optional installation utility called
Wubi which allows 8.04 to run as a Windows application.
The complete Ubuntu system is installed as a single file in the Windows
system. It is supposed to be somewhat slower than occupying its own
partition, but is fully functional.
That is the way I installed it. I assumed that I would have a choice of
which operating system to use -- or some other option to open Ubuntu. -- so
far I can't find a way in!!!

Thanks again.

Problem Solved: There is a difference between Ubuntu 8.04 & 8.04.1. Downloaded the latter file and had the dual boot arrangement with Ubuntu & Vista.
