original desktop lost, how to restore

I did something silly and standard startup destop went leaving a blank desktop. Anyway of restoring original desktop. Restarting ubuntu 8.04 does not work.

Hello James

Looks like you have messed up your ubuntu desktop..

Course to a terminal (Press cntrl + alt +f1 or f2 in the login screen) Or boot up in recovery mode (Usually 2nd option in grub menu)

and give the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop

and

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

and reboot your system..

sudo reboot

Hi James, three questions. did you try a right click on your blank desktop
Did you try the other options at boot?
If so, what was the last error message you saw?
