Error messages when installing plugins and updates

When installing outside programs or indeed the updates thru the system i get this message every time

E: msttcorefonts: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

is this serious and how do I rectify the situation.

I would appreciate any help, and please try to keep it simply I am a newbie at this.

Please open Terminal (Applications→Accesories→Terminal) and use command:

sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

and send error output (if any).
