trouble installing ubuntu on HP tx2500 notebook

Asked by einsteiniixy

below happened to both ubuntu 8.04 i386 and AMD64 ubuntu live CD:

boot from ubuntu 8.04 live CD, select install ubuntu 8.04 (something like that), loading, loading in half way, CD ejected automatically without reason, hit ENTER and reboot...

My laptop is an HP tx2500 with AMD turion 64 X2 2.40G, ATI 3200 graphic card and a convertible handwriting screen.

Thanks,

Hi,
Is it possible there is a CD fault?
Have you done the md5 checksum test on the disks?

Thanks.
the CD are OK. HP tech support says that "HP does not support Linux on any models of HP Pavilion PCs at this time." and I do not know if this words make any sense.

HP are probably working harder than anyone to comply with Linux, so that does make sense.

That still doesn't preclude someone here giving you a solution even if your CD drive is faulty.

My next suggestion is to try the minimal CD
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD

With a max of 20 meg data, it may load Ubuntu before the drive tires. I would also suggest starting with i386 and see how it goes. I can't get at least one AMD64 package to suit my spare printer (i250) but it runs sweet enough on i386

The laptop still suffers a few problems, but there is an install guide in the forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=873188

Can you help with this problem?
