I burned Ubuntu to a CD, following all instructions, but the desktop is not centered.

Asked by catmyn

I burned Ubuntu 6.10 to a cd. It boots up just fine, and seems to work, but the desktop is off center. There's a 1 1/2 inch black stripe down the right side of my screen, and the left side is off the screen and I can't see it. I'm an extreme newbie and would appreciate any help.

Hi

Your Ubuntu CD-ROM seems not to recognize your monitor properly.
So, you have to ajust the monitor accordingly by your self.

If you are using LCD, then easiest way (if it works...) is to push Auto
Button. This button will adjust your monitor automatically.
Try few time, if it dose not adjust the monitor properly.

This button is somewhere down side of your LCD front panel.
If you are unable to find the auto button, then find menu button
on the LCD and control menu will appear on the screen.

You can adjust your screen using this menu guide, if you do not
see what to do, then you should look into the manual of your LDC.

If you are using CRT, then same is almost true with the procedure
above, but I'm not sure since I don't have CRT right now and not
certain if CRT have Auto button or not.
