Hi, Hugh.
I've seen noticeable changes in the wine/UUbuntu combo, so think you will need to be more specific.
Which release of Ubuntu, and which release of Wine? i386 or AMD64? What is the name of the program - Version would probably make no difference to me, but someone more knowledgeable may want to know.
Are you using wine for other programs? If so, how many? Last but not least, do you know how to see and delete .root files?

Hello

Delete the program directory, then go into Wine's registry and manually remove the uninstall entry for the program.

Or Do you mean the Applications menu entry? If so, just go to System > Preferences > Main Menu and manually delete it.

If you are referring to the program's installed files, when I said "delete the program directory", I meant delete the program's installed files found in ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (or whatever directory you installed it in).

and also Check to see if it's gone from .local/share/applications/wine/

Regards

Bhavani Shankar.
